Straight from the off Psython’s latest offering: Hatred kicks into high gear with punky cross-over thrash. Very reminiscent of D.R.I and more recently Havok. Some great grooves to be had in this release. Old school yelled vocals take the listener right back to the early 80’s.
The production has a very DIY feel to it too as this was done by the band and gives a very raw sound full of aggression. Though this can occasionally be to the band’s detriment as on occasion the guitars are overpowered by the drums. The guitar solos reminded me of some of the more melodic work from Sacred Reich and the opener “Jörmungandr” (the name of which was taken from a Norse tale of a sea serpent) reminded me of a frantic Van Halen.
The album is a thrasher at heart and rarely changes in tempo but have the occasional melodic section to break up the songs, these are very welcome as for non-thrashers it can be slightly overpowering.
Though the album is played at breakneck speed there is also a lot of slightly slower chugging groove, definitely a lot of mosh-pit potential!
A fast paced, aggressive punchy album and an overall good piece of nostalgic old school thrash. For fans of Havok, Municipal Waste, Sacred Reich, Xentrix and D.R.I.
